The new police station is a 4-storey building with an area of 10,400 m2. The tower includes notably spaces for offices and meeting rooms.

The steel frame of the tower includes Cast-Connex moulded steel connections. The ground floor will house a maintenance center for police vehicles as well as a shooting range of 900 m2. The basement of the project includes a parking lot with 105 spaces. The foundations of the building are supported on driven piles.

Technical challenges :

  • Seismic load resistance system designed at a "civil protection" level while considering the possibility of adding a future floor.
  • 4-meter, four-storey architectural cantilever at the front of the building.
  • Roof designed to accommodate a future floor area composed of a concrete topping.
  • Design of foundations on poor quality soil requiring a driven pile system throughout the site.
  • Integration of a column-free 65 m x 15.7 m shooting range supporting several elements of acoustic and ballistic protection as well as mechanical systems.
  • Design of a full-height façade, including a braced structural bay, with a limited number of lateral supports to create an atrium for the main staircase.

Notable solutions and innovations :

  • Integration of Cast Connex "High Strength Connectors" type cast steel components for the exposed bracing connections.
  • Use of bracing limiting "BRBF" buckling in order to clear the corridors and use simple diagonals in a civil protection context.
  • Seismic separation of the building into two distinct sections to compensate for the difference in rigidity along the length of the building.
  • Design of a hanger system with rigid connections to support and stabilize the ballistic protection system, including the integration of rubber plates in the connections for acoustic protection.
