The Gatsby, a luxurious building located at 1200 Drummond Street (in the heart of downtown Montreal), is an 18-storey reinforced concrete building with two levels of underground parking. The roof of the podium volume has a large swimming pool, accessible by a large urban chalet. In addition, a large outdoor roof terrace is located on the second floor, where the exercise room is also located.

From a structural point of view, vertical access is provided by a central core comprising elevators and stairs. The continuity of the cladding and fenestration of the facade overlooking Drummond Street above the entrance to the parking lots is achieved by an unconventional steel structure deriving from an innovative design.

Technical challenges :

  • Construction near an operational fire station with heritage characteristics. The construction work of the Gatsby required an underpinning of this building;
  • Design of an innovative steel structure above the entrance to the parking lots in order to preserve the continuity of the Drummond façade while allowing light to pass through.
