First structural glass project in Newfoundland, the SWGC New Academic Building makes a statement that the institution is at the forefront of innovation. This challenging project was completed in two phases: the observatory staircase enclosure and the atrium space.

In addition to the complex geometry, the design approach had to take into account the short construction season, the location and the use of skilled workers exposed to structural glass for the first time. Extensive site survey, use of templates and lifting rigs for pre-assembled glass fins were all strategies in minimizing field work.
