This architecture, design and planning office in downtown Toronto intrigues and welcomes, with its unique, central statement piece: a sinuous, handcrafted wooden partition that softens the space and defines different work areas.

Our mandate was to design this freestanding and flexible partition made of Baltic birch plywood and supported by a minimalist steel structure. This artwork measures over 30.5 m (100 ft) and reaches a height of 2.44 m (8 ft) without touching the concrete ceiling which is located 450 mm (1.5 ft) higher.

Technical challenges :

  • Concealed connections at the base
  • Anchors to hollow slabs
  • Minimize interventions to the existing structure

Notable solutions and innovations :

  • Use of aviation cables at the head of the posts to brace them while allowing adjustment on the job site to avoid the various mechanical elements and the hollowed portions of the slab.
