The 180 René-Lévesque is a 21-storey tower with two basements, located at the entrance to downtown Montreal with a strong presence among neighbouring lower-rise buildings. The tower has a structural underground slab upon which sit mature trees, as well as a podium on the fourth floor housing a swimming pool for the users of this residential tower.

Technical challenges :

  • Design of a raft foundation covering the entire footprint of the building due to the low-bearing capacity of the soil;
  • Development of a shoring strategy in order to avoid underground interventions while allowing the underpinning of two neighbouring buildings measuring more than three floors in height.
